In 1977 this powerful monument was erected honoring Anastasia Kupriyanova and her sons. All five sons were killed in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. All five were killed defeating fascism and stopping the Nazi invaders. An unimaginable sacrifice for humanity.
The youngest, Pyotr, was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously for blocking the gun carriage of an enemy pillbox with his body.
In an era of renewed anti-communist fervour and lies and as the far right internationally tries to erase the resistance of the USSR and to build a false moral equivalences between communism and fascism, remember Anastasia Kupriyanova and her sons.
They died for you.
