Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez joined Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros in a tribute to Simón Bolívar in the square bearing his name in Moscow.

Both leaders are in Russia, invited by President Putin, to participate in the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Victory over fascism. They met this Thursday to pay tribute to the Liberator, "on behalf of all the ALBA-TCP countries," Maduro said.

The Presidents, along with their colleagues Lis Cuesta and Cilia Flores, laid a wreath at the foot of the equestrian statue, which is a replica of the one in Caracas and located on the central Lomonosov Avenue in the Russian capital.

There, they recalled the global significance of the victory in the Great Patriotic War and the heroic role played by the Russian people in defeating fascism. They also met with young Venezuelan students in Russia, who joined them in the tribute.

Later, the two leaders held a meeting, about which Maduro wrote on Telegram: "Meeting with President Díaz-Canel in Russia is another demonstration to the world of how sovereign peoples build alliances of respect, cooperation, and peace. Excellent day of work!"

"We shared good anecdotes from our history of brotherhood among peoples with the President of Cuba. Let us continue strengthening our bonds of unity," he added.
