"I know that you can’t live on hope alone, but without it, life is not worth living. And you, and you, and you, and you have got to give them hope.” - Harvey Milk
Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man elected to office in California, was born May 22, 1930. Milk was an important figure in the fight for gay rights and civil rights in the United States. He was assassinated on November 27, 1978.
"What set Harvey apart from you or me was that he was a visionary. He imagined a righteous world inside his head and then he set about to create it for real, for all of us." -- Anne Kronenberg, the campaign manager of Milk's last election campaign.
Harvey Milk Day is celebrated on May 22.
