Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, congratulated the soldiers of the Eastern Army on Tuesday in celebration of the 65th anniversary of the founding of this military unit on April 21. This founding took place just two days after the historic victory at Playa Girón and amid the revolutionary fervor experienced following the first defeat of the empire in the Americas.

"I remember from those founding days the order given by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, who stated that 'If we save the East, we save the Revolution!', convinced of the strategic importance of that historically and geographically crucial region," wrote Raúl, in his letter of greeting.

He emphasized that, "from that point on, the path of the so-called "Lord Army" was shaped not just by its military strength, but also by its storied history of combat, its unwavering stance against enemy provocations and aggressions, and its proven selflessness in carrying out glorious internationalist missions.."

He also underlined "its contribution to our strategic conception of the War of All the People and its creative application, especially in these times of constant threat to the socialist homeland."

"Still vivid as well are the images of their brave troops in the rescue efforts, and later in the recovery after the devastating winds of Hurricane Melissa—a practice that has defined their history and earned them the heartfelt gratitude of our beloved people.," he added.

"On this important day, heartfelt tributes and respect are paid to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. Let our daily tribute to the heroes inspire unwavering belief that the Eastern Army will stand strong against any enemy aggression until victory is won."

"On this anniversary, I extend my congratulations to the founders and all the participants for the achievements they have accomplished" he said in his letter to the members of the Eastern Army, to whom he sent, at the end, "a warm embrace."
