Soviet electric train prototype engine T8-001, 1961.
The prototype was designed to be a 7000 hp engine to run on the 3000 volt Transcaucasus/Transcaucasian line of the Soviet rail system. It was built at the Tbilisi Electric Locomotive Works.
Later that year the engine was launched as the VL (Vladimir Lenin) 10 to honour the 40th anniversary of the triumph of Soviet power and the revolution in Georgia.
The VL10 saw extensive service across the Soviet railway system and some are still in use today in Russia and Ukraine.
