The 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) began its fifth plenary session in Beijing on Monday morning (October 26). Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, delivered a work report on behalf of the Political Bureau.
He also expounded on a draft decision addressing major issues related to strengthening full and rigorous Party self‑governance.
The draft decision summarizes achievements and experience in full and rigorous Party self‑governance in the “new era”, provides in‑depth analysis of current and future Party‑building tasks and sets out strategic plans for strengthening Party self‑governance, based on a Political Bureau meeting held in September that submitted the document for review at the plenum.
According to an earlier Political Bureau meeting in July, since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, full and rigorous Party self‑governance has made significant progress, opened a new frontier for Party self‑reform and produced historic achievements and transformations in the Party and the country’s development.
The Political Bureau noted that despite progress, the Party faces new circumstances and challenges due to profound changes unfolding in the world, in China and within the Party itself.
It called for higher standards in Party governance, more concrete measures to apply lessons from recent years, efforts to resolve prominent issues in Party building and continued work to consolidate and develop a sound political environment through self‑supervision and self‑governance.
The plenary session will continue until October 29.
