The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) has called on the international community to resolutely oppose the threat or use of force by the United States against Cuba.
The regional bloc stated its deep concern and strong opposition to the escalating remarks made by the U.S. government that "threaten the use of force against the sister Republic of Cuba," in a regional setting defined by rising tensions that threaten the peace and stability of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Faced with this situation, the Alliance reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of International Law, the peaceful settlement of disputes, non-interference in the internal affairs of states and full respect for the self-determination, sovereignty, and independence of our peoples.
It also called on the international community to resolutely oppose the threat or use of force against the island and urged the U.S. government to prioritize the path of "respectful dialogue, in conditions of equality, without threats or conditions," with full adherence to the UN Charter and respect for Cuba's sovereignty and independence.
The member countries of ALBA-TCP reiterated their willingness to actively contribute to understanding among nations and to the preservation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, "promoting dialogue and civilized coexistence as the only way to resolve differences."
