CIEGO DE ÁVILA – With Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, in attendance, a gala was held last night in Ciego de Ávila. This event, from a cultural standpoint, honored the historic assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks on July 26, 1953.

At the recently renovated Teatro Principal, a local landmark in the city's historic center, the evening showcased Ciego de Ávila art and included a tribute to the heroes and martyrs of the Centennial Generation, who were key figures in the epic military action.

Audiovisual artists, solo performers, poets, troubadours, dance troupes, and living statues honored the events that designated the date as National Rebellion Day, the historical carnivals in Santiago de Cuba, and other symbols of the anniversary.

Under the direction of Orlando Concepción González of the D'Morón Teatro company, the coherence and elegance of the gala, offered a journey through the culture of Ciego de Ávila. It highlighted its rural and folkloric roots, refined elements, costumbrista scenes, and traditional dances like the danzón and the Mozambique.
The gala, in which art merged with patriotism, was also attended by members of the Political Bureau and other Party, State, and Government officials.
