We bow the red flag of the Communist Party of Mexico in memory of Commander Ramiro Valdés Menéndez (translated from the Spanish)
We pay tribute to the Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez who died on June 20. He was an unwavering fighter for the freedom of the Cuban people and for the triumph of the Cuban Revolution and its socialist character.
From a young age, as a rebellious worker from Artemis, he took on the commitment to stand against injustice and exploitation, driven, as he stated, by a natural sense of class instinct. In the struggle against the criminal dictatorship of Batista, under the leadership of the young revolutionary Fidel Castro, he joined the Centennial Generation, participating in different legal and clandestine actions, being one of the combatants who in the early morning of July 26 assaulted the Moncada Barracks and who later suffered imprisonment and exile in Mexico. He was one of the Granma expedition members and a fighter in the 26th of July Movement in the Sierra Maestra, with an outstanding record of service. Together with Commander Ernesto Che Guevara he was entrusted with the capture of Santa Clara, a decisive battle for the defeat of the criminal Batista and heroic prelude to the revolutionary triumph of January 1, 1959.
Commander Ramiro Valdés spent many years leading the fight against the counterrevolution. He served as Minister of the Interior and Minister of Communications, and was also a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.
His life was dedicated to the cause of the people of Cuba and to their emancipation. There is no blemish on his record as a revolutionary. For this reason, we share in the sorrow and the tribute that the people of Cuba pay to him.
Today, with Cuba under siege, threatened by a U.S. invasion and subjected to a criminal energy blockade, the example of Commander Ramiro Valdés, alongside Fidel, Camilo, Almeida, and Che, proves that adversity can be faced without giving up, without surrendering, paving the way for future victories.
Proletarians of all countries, unite!
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Mexico
