On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 18, John Dramani Mahama, the President of the Republic of Ghana, officially opened the International Commemorative Conference marking the 80th Anniversary of the 5th Pan-African Congress.
At the start of his speech, the President of Ghana urged the pan-African organizations and political entities attending the event to assist in the recovery efforts for Cuba and Jamaica, sister nations impacted by Hurricane Melissa.
Yuneidys Imbert Chaple, the Deputy Head of the Department of Attention to the Social Sector of the Communist Party of Cuba, expressed gratitude to Ghana for its longstanding stance against the U.S. blockade on Cuba and for the recent act of solidarity by the Ghanaian government in aiding the recovery of Cuba's eastern provinces.
She also emphasized that the year 2026 will mark the Centennial of the birth Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, providing a chance to further strengthen the bonds of solidarity and cooperation between our nations, inspired by the ideas of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
