The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, conveyed "the most sincere congratulations to dear comrade To Lam for his re-election as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and we wish him new successes in the leadership of that sister political organization."
Likewise, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales Ojeda, said: "From the Communist Party of Cuba, we congratulate the new Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam for its XIV mandate, especially its General Secretary, dear comrade To Lam. We reiterate our commitment to further strengthen the excellent inter-party ties through cooperation and the sharing of experiences in building socialism in both countries."
Historic milestone for Vietnam
In Hanoi, To Lam, closing the country's most important political event, said that "the 14th Congress has concluded with great success, marking a new historic milestone for the Party and the Vietnamese nation"
He emphasized the organization's historical continuity, ideological steadfastness, and renewed determination, highlighting the widespread agreement on the strategic documents and the election of the new Central Committee, which represents over 5.6 million militants.
He stressed that the approved documents constitute "the crystallization of the intelligence, will, revitalized thought and great determination of the entire Party, of all the people and of the entire army" in the construction, development and defense of the socialist homeland.
He emphasized that the Congress – which brought together more than 1,500 delegates – defined both urgent and strategic tasks, aimed at guaranteeing rapid and sustainable development, the firm defense of national sovereignty and the comprehensive elevation of the people's standard of living.
Among the central objectives, he reiterated the goal of turning Vietnam, by 2030, into a developing country, with modern industry and an upper middle income, and to achieve, by 2045, the status of a high-income developed nation, "for a peaceful, independent, democratic, strong, prosperous, civilized and happy Vietnam", advancing steadily towards socialism.
The leader pointed out that the guiding spirit of the new mandate is strategic autonomy, self-sufficiency and national unity, and called for "turning will into action and decisions into concrete results," with a work style characterized by determination, urgency and effectiveness.
The Congress identified socioeconomic development and environmental protection as essential pillars; the construction and correction of the Party as a crucial task; the enhancement of culture and human development as foundational; and defense, security, diplomacy, and international integration as ongoing missions. Notably, science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation were recognized as "the central driver of development."
To Lam reaffirmed the importance of maintaining ideological firmness, noting that "under all circumstances, the Party remains faithful to the goal of national independence linked to socialism," always placing the interests of the nation and "the well-being and happiness of the people at the center."
He also emphasized the importance of building a comprehensive and robust Party, reinforcing the idea that "the people are the foundation," and using public satisfaction as a benchmark for evaluating the effectiveness of party organizations and the political system as a whole.
On the international level, the General Secretary reaffirmed Vietnam's independent, peaceful and cooperative foreign policy, and its readiness to be "a friend, reliable partner and active and responsible member of the international community", in favour of regional and global peace, stability and sustainable development.
In conclusion, To Lam urged the entire Party, the people, and the armed forces to enhance their patriotism and civic duty, beginning with the most specific tasks aimed to implement the resolutions of the Congress.. He expressed confidence that with unity and collective will, Vietnam will successfully achieve the goals set and continue to firmly advance on the socialist path.
Broad international backing and endorsement of leadership
At the closing of the event, Le Quoc Minh, member of the 14th term Central Committee, editor-in-chief of the Nhan Dan newspaper and president of the Vietnam Association of Journalists, read out congratulatory messages sent by political parties, international organizations and friends of the country.
Since the Congress began, 339 additional messages have been received, bringing the total to 898 congratulatory notes from 167 political parties, 17 international organizations, and numerous institutions and individuals worldwide. These messages acknowledge the Party's leadership and Vietnam's increasing international significance.
During the first plenary session of the Central Committee of the XIV mandate this Friday, elections were held for the Political Bureau, the secretary general, and other key positions. To Lam was unanimously re-elected as the general secretary of the Party. The newly formed Politburo consists of 19 members, including senior leaders of the Party and the state.
After introducing the new Political Bureau, Secretariat, and Central Committee of the 14th Party to the Congress, To Lam expressed gratitude on behalf of these bodies to the party for its trust and the high honor bestowed upon them, describing it as a significant responsibility to both the Party and the people. He reaffirmed the Central Committee's absolute loyalty to the Party's goals and ideals, stressing that the interests of the nation and the people will always be above all else.
To Lam stated that the 14th term Central Committee will operate with the utmost exemplary spirit, ensuring consistency between their words and actions, and directing their efforts towards concrete results that benefit the people. He reaffirmed the commitment to continue strengthening an ethical, united and solid Party, enhancing party discipline and the rule of law, improving power control mechanisms, and resolutely fighting against corruption, waste, and negative practices.
