Cuba will participate in World Baseball Classic

Given all efforts made in preparation, the dedication of the players and the team as a whole, and the commitment made to the organizers, Cuba will exercise its right to participate in the VI World Baseball Classic.

We continue to stress the discriminatory and politicized nature of the decision to deny visas to eight members of our delegation, contrary to the tournament's norms. However, we will not abandon an event we have been part of since its inaugural edition.

As mentioned earlier, each member of the delegation who was arbitrarily excluded had specific roles assigned by the organizers for all participating countries. These responsibilities are now redistributed among the limited officials we have, including technical staff, putting our team at a clear operational and competitive disadvantage.

Despite various challenges linked to United States regulations, the determination to compete with dignity has prevailed. This understanding of what it means to earn the applause of supporters both on and off the island is inspired by the many proud moments that define our national sport.

We express our gratitude to everyone involved, including the athletes and coaches who are about to travel to Arizona to finalize their preparations. They are key players in an effort marked by dedication to their Homeland above personal ambitions.

In that spirit we will join the VI World Baseball Classic!
