HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez arrived in Hanoi on Sunday morning to attend the event commemorating the 80th anniversary of the proclamation of independence and the founding of what was then the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. He joins leaders and delegations from around the world who are coming to the capital to support the Vietnamese people in what is anticipated to be an unprecedented celebration.

At Noi Bai International Airport, the Head of State was welcomed by Nguyen Xuan Thang, a member of the Political Bureau, director of the Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy, and chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, along with other officials from the party, government, and the Friendship Association between the two countries. Approximately 200 people, carrying Cuban and Vietnamese flags and displaying the joy with which true friends are welcomed, were also present at the terminal this morning.

As planned in advance, the Cuban president will subsequently visit China and Laos as part of a tour of this Asian region. In China, he will attend the event commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, where a significant military parade will also take place.
