From the Soviet Press at the time: "It is divided into eleven sections, each representing one of the eleven Constituent Republics that make up the USSR, bearing the official seal of each and a bas relief depicting the life of its people. The eleven republics are Russia (RSFSR), the Ukraine, Byelorussia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Turkmenia, Uzbekistan, Tadjikistan, Kazakhstan and Kirghizia."
