From the PRC press: Three young artists from Kwangtung province, Wu Chi-chung, Chou Po and Lin Yung, produced the traditional-style painting "Presents from Peking". It depicts the people of the Hsisha Islands and armymen stationed there, fresh from their victory in a self-defense counterattack battle. They are opening gifts — Chairman Mao's works and materials on the criticism of Lin Piao and Confucius — sent them as a tribute by the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party on behalf of the people of the whole country. The artists who were themselves in the Hsisha Islands capture the feeling of the moment. The army and people, united in their determination to defend the sacred territory of the motherland, are portrayed in bright colors and light but firm strokes.
