8th Yugoslav Partisans' Corps marches through Mostar after liberating it, February 1945
On February 14, 1945 the city of Mostar was liberated from the Nazis and their fascist allies after several days of fighting. Over 30,000 Communist partisans were involved in the battle under the leadership of Petar Drapšin. Drapšin had also fought against the fascists during the Spanish Civil War. He died later in 1945 and was posthumously named a People's Hero of Yugoslavia.
