Pyotr Aleksandrovich Krivonogov (1910-1967), a child of very poor peasants and a veteran of the Great Patriotic War of the USSR against the Nazis, became an Honoured Artist of the RFSFR after the war and is now regarded as one of the great modern artists of military themes.
