During the pandemic Cuba "has won the respect of millions of workers around the world."

Excerpt from a statement by Elisaios Vagenas, Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece, October 17, 2020

Cuban doctors arrive in Italy at the height of the pandemic

The pandemic has shown the most abominable face of capitalism, with millions of people without social security around the world, with public health systems being dismantled, with a lack of doctors, nurses and adequate infrastructure, even in the most powerful capitalist countries, proud of their nuclear arsenals and supersonic fighter jets, while leaving millions of citizens at the mercy of the pandemic. The pandemic has highlighted the horrific essence of this system that teaches our children in schools that it is supposedly "a one-way street" and "the end of History." And the disgusting reality is that capitalist profit is, above all, what drives conflicts and antagonisms even over drugs and vaccines that can save millions of lives.
At the other extreme of this horrible situation was Cuba, a country that for years has suffered from the actions taken against it by the United States and the EU, as well as the slander and mockery of the bourgeois media, a country and a people who have opted for a different development path and for this decision have suffered for many years an economic and commercial blockade by the most powerful economic and political-military power on the planet, the US, and US imperialism.
With its high level of free public health services -- as well as its international medical assistance in dozens of countries, thousands of Cuban doctors, both during the pandemic and before -- Cuba, the "island of the Revolution", has won the respect of millions of workers around the world. It has become a tangible example of solidarity and an "island of humanity" in the ocean of capitalist barbarism today.
