European leftist and progressive parties reaffirm their solidarity with Cuba

Havana, June 11, 2026 -- On Thursday morning, a virtual meeting was held at the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in which 46 representatives of 29 leftist and progressive political parties and movements in Europe participated.

The meeting was chaired by member of the Central Committee and head of its Department of International Relations, Emilio Lozada García, who, following up on a similar meeting that took place in March, gave a detailed update on the complex situation facing Cuba. Due to the United States government’s aggressive escalation, the economic, commercial, financial, and energy blockade has grown more severe, compounded by the effects of the May 1 Executive Order on key sectors. Lozada García also mentioned the unfounded accusation against Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, calling it yet another act of blatant political manipulation by Yankee imperialism against the leader of the Revolution.

The occasion was also fitting to express gratitude to the political organizations for their continuous demonstrations of solidarity and support for the Cuban people, the PCC, and its Revolution.

Lozada García highlighted the firm decision of the Communist Party of Cuba to defend the Homeland and to continue advancing, despite the difficult circumstances, the process of building socialism.

During this heartfelt meeting, participants expressed broad and powerful statements of support and solidarity with Cuba. Of particular note were Peter Mertens, secretary general of the Workers' Party of Belgium, spoke out about the harmful role played by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in shaping his country's aggressive stance toward Cuba; Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), highlighted the immoral inclusion of our country on the list of states supposedly sponsoring terrorism, despite the fact that we have been victims of this terrible scourge ourselves; Enrique Santiago, general secretary of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE), who emphasized the Revolution’s symbolism as the first anti-imperialist stronghold in Latin America; Kemal Okuyan, general secretary of the Communist Party of Türkiye (TKP), who highlighted the heroic and historic resistance of the Cuban people in the defense of socialism and ethical values; Paulo Raimundo, secretary general of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), who condemned the significant impacts of the blockade policy on all sectors of Cuban society; as well as Stefanos Stefanou, secretary general of the AKEL party of Cyprus, who insisted on Cuba's right to develop without external interference.

In over a dozen speeches, party leaders voiced their solidarity with the Army General against the latest imperial hoax and spoke about the various support initiatives for Cuba they’ve been working on in their respective countries.

The hero of the Republic of Cuba and president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González Llort, also participated in the meeting, as well as officials from the Department of International Relations of the PCCCC, the Ideological Department and the ICAP.
