General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Syrian Communist Party Comrade Ammar Bagdash… Farewell, Your Party Remains
The Central Committee of the Syrian Communist Party mourns to our Syrian people and to the international communist and labour movement the passing of its militant leader, Ammar Bagdash, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Syrian Communist Party, who passed away on the evening of July 12, 2025, in the Greek capital, Athens.
Our Party has lost a great leader and an exceptional fighter who preserved the ideological, class, and organizational purity of Marxism-Leninism under the darkest and most complex circumstances, thus earning the unanimous support of comrades rallying around his principled, steadfast leadership.
Our people will remember with loyalty Comrade Ammar Bagdash’s contributions to the national and class struggle and his scientific, methodical exposure of the liberal economic policies that exhausted the homeland and the people, paving the way for obscurantist forces to seize the country.
Moreover, Comrade Ammar’s internationalist role remains an honest compass that never lost its way despite successive ordeals. He spared no effort in exposing revisionism and opportunism within the communist and labour movement, remaining an unyielding fighter against Zionism as a dangerous spearhead of imperialist forces targeting the communist movement and progressive forces everywhere.
O masses of our proud people!
As we bid farewell to our Party’s leader today, we pledge to you to continue along the path of the school founded by the historic leader of the Syrian communists, Comrade Khaled Bagdash, whose motto was: “Defending the homeland and defending the people’s livelihood.”
While the funeral of the General Secretary will take place in Athens, we, the Central Committee of the Syrian Communist Party, announce to our people that the condolences and tribute to the great departed Comrade Ammar Bagdash will be held in Damascus in a manner befitting his esteemed position and exceptional militant qualities. He will be laid to rest at the foothills of Mount Qasioun, which he loved, once the dark clouds clear from the sky of the homeland and the sun of freedom and dignity shines.
Today, we pledge to our dear comrade Ammar Bagdash, the General Secretary of our Party’s Central Committee, that the Syrian communists, their mass organizations, and their friends in every city and village will remain faithful—no matter the sacrifices—to the struggle for building a society of social justice, a socialist society, and that the banner of Marxism-Leninism will continue to fly high in the skies of Syria.
