South African Communist Party Media Statement on the war in Sudan

Saturday, 1 November 2025: - The South African Communist Party (SACP) condemns, with revolutionary outrage, the barbaric massacres and systematic violence unleashed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against defenceless civilians in El Fasher, Bara, and other regions of Darfur and Kordofan in Sudan. These atrocities - summary executions, arbitrary detentions, looting, property destruction, and forced displacement – are nothing short of war crimes and genocidal acts, as corroborated by United Nations reports, human rights organisations, and credible media. The SACP stands in unwavering solidarity with the Sudanese people, rejecting any attempt to justify or obscure these crimes against humanity.

A History of Impunity Fueling Barbarity

The horrors unfolding in Sudan are not isolated but part of a vicious cycle of impunity rooted in the unresolved legacy of the Darfur massacres of the early 2000s. The failure to bring perpetrators to justice has emboldened the RSF and other reactionary forces, allowing war crimes to resurface whenever state forces retreat, as seen in Bara and El Fasher. This systemic violence is a product of a parasitic capitalist class and its imperialist backers, who exploit Sudan’s wealth and sow division to maintain their dominance. The SACP demands immediate and uncompromising accountability for all those issuing and executing these criminal orders.

We further denounce the Sudanese army’s shameful abandonment of its duty to protect civilians, particularly in El Fasher, where its retreat has left communities at the mercy of the RSF, infamously known as the Janjaweed militia. An army that prioritises self-preservation over the defence of its people and homeland betrays its fundamental purpose and must face the consequences.

Unmasking the Capitalist and Imperialist Roots of the War

The SACP recognises that the war in Sudan is not merely a military power struggle but a manifestation of the deeper contradictions of capitalism and imperialism. At its heart, this conflict is driven by parasitic factions of the Sudanese ruling class, enriched through corruption and resource plunder, waging a brutal war to secure their grip on power and wealth. This internal class struggle is compounded by a regional and international imperialist agenda that seeks to weaken Sudan, fragment its sovereignty, and plunder its resources for the benefit of global capital.

The fingerprints of imperialist powers – through arms supplies, political complicity, and economic manipulation – are evident in this war’s prolongation. The SACP condemns these forces and their local proxies, whose actions perpetuate the suffering of Sudan’s working class and peasantry. This crisis demands a revolutionary response, both within Sudan and from the global working-class movement.

A call for Global Solidarity

The SACP calls on the working class, communist and workers’ parties, progressive movements, and human rights organisations worldwide to unite in solidarity with the Sudanese people, who have endured nearly three years of relentless war with no end in sight. The cries of Sudan’s victims must not be drowned out by hollow statements or diplomatic platitudes. We urge the global working class and democratic forces to mobilise through street protests, media campaigns, and social platforms to demand an immediate end to the war and justice for Sudan’s people.

The SACP demands concrete, revolutionary action to replace empty rhetoric:

  1. Immediate Ceasefire and Humanitarian Relief: An urgent ceasefire, a humanitarian truce, and the immediate opening of secure humanitarian corridors to El Fasher, Bara, Darfur, and North and South Kordofan. Aid convoys must be protected to deliver life-saving support to the masses.

  2. Justice Through Independent Investigations: A swift, transparent, and independent international investigation into all war crimes in Sudan. Perpetrators, their commanders, and their enablers must face justice through credible judicial mechanisms, both local and international.

  3. Global Action Against Imperialist Complicity: The world’s revolutionary and democratic forces must pressure states and international institutions to end all forms of support – political, military, or economic – for the perpetrators of these atrocities. This includes imposing sanctions, banning arms exports to the conflicting parties, and dismantling imperialist networks fuelling the war.

Forward to a Revolutionary Resolution

The SACP calls on the Sudanese working class, peasantry, and revolutionary forces to unite in a resolute struggle to end the war and seize power from the reactionary regimes in Port Sudan and Nyala. The path of the December Revolution must be reclaimed to build a civil, democratic state that guarantees human rights, social justice, and the sovereignty of the Sudanese people. This struggle is inseparable from the global fight against capitalism and imperialism.

Drawing from South Africa’s own history of defeating apartheid through mass struggle and international solidarity, the SACP pledges its unwavering support to the Sudanese people. We will not allow the blood of Sudan’s martyrs to be buried under empty sympathies or bureaucratic inertia. The working class of South Africa stands shoulder-to-shoulder with our Sudanese comrades in their fight for freedom, justice, and dignity.

Stop the Massacres! Open Humanitarian Corridors! Deliver Justice!

The SACP recommits itself to the global struggle against imperialism, capitalism, and all forms of oppression. We call for a world where the working class and oppressed people’s triumph over exploitation and violence.

Justice for Sudan’s Martyrs! Victory to the Sudanese Revolution!
