The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) held a political event in Alexandroupolison October 18, bringing together representatives of the KKE and the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) to promote friendship and the common struggle between Greek and Turkish workers against exploitation, imperialist rivalries, and war.

The event was organized by the Regional Organization of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace of the KKE under the slogan “We respond to exploitation, capitalist rivalries and war with friendship and the common struggle of the peoples. Socialism is the real way out for the peoples!”

The keynote speakers at the event were Eliseos Vagenas, a member of the Central Committee of the KKE and head of its International Relations Section, and Murat Akad, a member of the TKP Party Council.

The speakers addressed the tensions between Greece and Turkey, the competition among the bourgeois classes over mineral wealth, energy and transport routes, and their ambition to rise in the imperialist hierarchy. They also discussed the connection between these developments and the broader contradictions within the global imperialist system, as well as the tasks of communists on both sides of the Aegean against nationalism, and racism, for the intensification of the the common anti-capitalist struggle of the Communist Parties for socialism and communism.

The event concluded amid applause, raised flags, and slogans such as “In Greece and Turkey, the enemy is the same; imperialism is not invincible;” and “Alexandroupolis, a port for the peoples, not a launching pad for the imperialists.”
