Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), met with the Cuban Ambassador, Aramis Fuente Hernández, at the headquarters of the Party’s Central Committee in Perissos. The meeting was also attended by Giorgos Marinos, member of the Political Bureau and MP, and Aris Evangelidis, member of the Central Committee.
During the meeting, the Cuban ambassador briefed the participants of the latest developments in Cuba, highlighting the escalation of the US blockade of the island, including the deprivation of essential fuel supplies and the serious consequences this has for the country and its people. He stressed that there is an awareness of the great difficulties, that Cuba is enduring without retreating or surrendering, and that the patriotism of the people is growing stronger.
Immediately after the meeting, Dimitris Koutsoumbas made the following statement: “On the occasion of our meeting with the Cuban ambassador in Athens, we would once again like to express our solidarity with the heroic people of Cuba, who are fighting hard under difficult conditions against the US blockade — a blockade imposed for decades by the US imperialists and their allies. Today, this is compounded by Trump’s new threats against Cuba’s integrity and sovereignty, including threats of direct intervention. We stand by their side!
The KKE and KNE have announced protests and solidarity demonstrations in Athens, outside the US embassy, in support of the Cuban people. At the same time, I would like to call on all organizations, trade unions, student unions, women’s associations, and other mass popular movements to take to the streets in solidarity with this heroic people.”
