The Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity (URNG) party has denounced U.S. President Donald Trump's threats of a possible military intervention against Cuba and condemned the blockade of the island.
In a statement, the political group emphasized that in the year marking the Centennial of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, there is no better or more fitting tribute to him than the unity and resilience shown by Cuba on May 1st.
It was noted that over 500,000 people in Havana and more than five million across Cuba took part in massive marches, showing their strong commitment to the Revolution and their determination to defend it with both ideas and arms.
It called it a historic day, striking a blow against U.S. imperialism, which insists on portraying Cuba as ready to give in to its threats of military aggression.
We are living in dangerous times for humanity, especially for the largest island in the Caribbean, said the historical left party of this Central American country.
The URNG described how unilateral coercive measures are enforced daily, cognitive and unconventional wars are on the rise, the use of force has become routine, natural resources are being stolen from nations, and territories are being occupied.
It also brought up tariffs, military threats and interventions, and the ongoing violation of international law and the sovereignty of nations.
In this situation, the Chapín party, officially established on December 18, 1998, warned that the threats of military intervention in Cuba are growing with each passing day.
It said the ongoing reinforcement of the blockade continues to affect the Cuban people, bringing serious social and humanitarian consequences. The recent energy blockade, on top of an economic blockade that has lasted more than 60 years, has only made its impact even stronger, the statement added.
On May 1, Cuba was threatened again and an Executive Order has already been issued reiterating the designation of the island as "an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States..."
The organization stressed that all the measures being imposed, along with the slander, lies, and constant threats against Cuba, amount to an imminent declaration of war.
The URNG expressed confidence that the Cuban people, led by their Communist Party, historic figures like Commander Raúl Castro, and President Miguel Díaz-Canel, and driven by a strong creative, resilient, and combative spirit, will continue to withstand and defeat any form of aggression, including direct military attack.
The URNG expressed strong support for the people and government of Cuba, firmly condemning all acts of aggression and advocating for the creation of a Multipolar Front of International Solidarity.
