Cuba and China are strengthening their regional ties today with the visit of Gladys Martinez, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and the first secretary of the Provincial Committee in Artemisa.

She met with Shen Xiaoming, the Communist Party of China (CPC) Secretary in Hunan, and both emphasized the robust friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

Martínez and Shen reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening mutually beneficial exchanges between the provinces of Hunan and Artemisa, recognizing the significant potential yet to be explored.

The Cuban delegation paid tribute to the historical leader of the Chinese Revolution, Mao Zedong in his home province, at the monumental complex there in his honor.

She also visited economic and production centers to help strengthen relations in these sectors.

The visit exemplifies the progress and realization of the consensus established in the Exchange and Cooperation Agreement, the first agreement of its kind signed between the Provincial Committees of the CPC in Hunan and the PCC in Artemisa.

Moreover, Cuba welcomes the idea of establishing a twinning agreement between Hunan and Holguín. These regions, which are the birthplaces of the historical leaders of both socialist revolutions, Fidel Castro and Mao Zedong, have potential for collaboration in tourism and mining.

On August 30, the two leaders signed a Framework Agreement virtually for the Joint Promotion of the Agricultural Cooperation Project, focusing on the pork and rice sectors.

Both parties previously collaborated on projects related to pig, rice, seed, and grain production, in coordination with the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

The partnership between Artemisa and Hunan is becoming a positive example of regional connections between Cuba and China, yielding tangible outcomes in agriculture, trade, and economic development.

Last September, the two nations commemorated 65 years of diplomatic relations, characterized by multisectoral cooperation and strong political mutual trust.
