Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and his delegation arrived in Pyongyang on November 11, 2025, at the invitation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Choe Son Hui.

The visit comes a month after a summit held in October between DPRK leader Kim Jong-un and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, during which both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation between their countries. The October summit coincided with the 80th founding anniversary of the Workers’ Party, a celebration that included a large-scale military and festive parade attended by President Thongloun among other foreign dignitaries

The visit was to facilitate follow-up measures stemming from the October summit talks and to further advance bilateral cooperation between the two socialist countries. Areas of mutual political, economic, and cultural interest were discussed.

Thongsavanh Phomvihane left November 16 amid pledges to further advance relations.
