MAY 5, 2026 -- The Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) strongly condemns the latest coercive measures and military threats against the Cuban people imposed by the US government.

The US government has imposed a new wave of sanctions on Cuba, on top of the oil blockade early this year. US President Donald Trump is also escalating his threats of military aggression against Cuba, by announcing his intention to send the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier towards the Caribbean island's shores, and claiming that the US would be "taking over" the country "almost immediately".

The imperialist US has demonstrated over and over again it is the greatest threat to world peace and justice. After the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, and the illegal war on Iran that brought more destruction and death, as well as choking the world with energy disruptions and soaring fuel costs, the imperialist US is turning its attention to destroying the island state that stood steadfastly for over six decades the Revolution of 1959 in defending sovereignty, independence, self-determination, peace and social justice.

We call upon the International community, including the government of Malaysia. to stand with Cuba against the US imperialist aggression. We call upon the governments around the world to isolate the US in order to reduce its ability to bully and threaten the world with more disastrous intervention. End the blockade of Cuba now!

We reaffirm our solidarity with Cuba and the Cuban people in this critical juncture. Cuba, since the Revolution of 1959, has been the bastion of international solidarity and humanity. We must not allow the imperialist forces to destroy the social gains of the Revolution.

Solidarity with Cuba is defending peace and justice.
