Mexico has announced it is sending two Navy vessels, the Papaloapan and Isla Holbox, from the port of Veracruz carrying more than 814 tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba. The cargo includes liquid milk, meat products, beans, rice, canned tuna, sardines, vegetable oil, and personal hygiene items. The ships are expected to arrive in Cuba within several days. The shipment does not, however, include any oil.
In a press release the Mexican government said: "Through these actions, the Government of Mexico reaffirms the humanistic principles and spirit of solidarity that guide it, and its commitment to international cooperation among peoples, especially with those who require humanitarian assistance in situations of emergency and vulnerability. Cuba and Mexico are sister nations, heirs to a long history of solidarity that we honor today."

The aid initiative was directed and ordered by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. While the shipment is purely humanitarian, it occurs in a context of diplomatic tensions and heightened economic restrictions affecting Cuba due to the criminal actions of the Trump regime in the United States which is attempting to engage in what many have described as "economic asphyxiation" of the socialist nation by imposing an oil embargo backed by tariff threats.
