What is the significance of a call ike "My signature for the Homeland"? National Literature Prize winner Nancy Morejón describes it as a genuine testimony worth sharing, as there is no greater right for a human being than to express themselves. Artist Lesbia Vent Dumois told Granma that anyone who identifies as Cuban cannot miss this opportunity.

With that goal in mind, members of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) gathered this Friday at the institution’s headquarters to support the “My Signature for the Homeland” movement and affirm Cuba’s sovereignty, in response to the escalating aggressions from the U.S. government and the decades-long blockade imposed on the island.

Marta Bonet, president of UNEAC, declared "We proudly embrace the coat of arms of artistic creation, carrying combat weapons at the ready if needed to protect peace and national independence. We reaffirm our unwavering love for the homeland and the right enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic to protect it from any threat."

She remembered that as we mark the 65th anniversary of declaring the socialist nature of our Revolution, we also share a commitment to protect the Homeland from threats and outside interference. Moreover, in the year marking the centenary of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, "our signature for the Homeland is also a tribute to his nobility and his deep belief that a united, dignified people, ready to face any adversity, is truly invincible."

"Let us place our signatures next to those of millions of compatriots, knowing that, in this homeland of Martí and Fidel, culture will continue to be, as Fidel defined it, 'the shield and sword of the nation,'" Marta Bonet concluded.

The Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso Grau, along with government and party representatives, UNEAC directors, and organization members, attended the meeting. This event also reaffirms the commitment of cultural institutions to defending the Homeland.
