Dear comrades,
The first round of Brazil’s general elections, held on October 4, took place in a complex political environment marked by a strong offensive from conservative and far-right forces. The presidential race will now proceed to a second round, in which the possibility of defeating this reactionary wave in the presidential contest and ensuring the continuity of a democratic and sovereign project committed to the interests of the Brazilian people will be at stake.
In this context, we would like to share with our friendly parties a result that we consider particularly significant: the PCdoB elected 11 federal deputies, substantially expanding its representation in the Chamber of Deputies and achieving its best result since the 2014 elections. Compared with the six seats won directly in the 2022 elections, this advance represents growth of more than 80%. We also increased our total votes. PCdoB candidates for the Chamber of Deputies received approximately 1.306 million votes, compared with around 1.154 million in 2022, an increase of 13.2%.
Amid an adverse political situation and electoral gains by right-wing and far-right forces, Brazilian communists increased their vote, their parliamentary representation, and their national political presence. This result is the product of the resistance, militancy, and political capacity of a Party with more than a century of history, which has endured periods of illegality, dictatorships, and persecution without abandoning its communist identity, its ties with workers and the people, or its struggle for a sovereign, democratic, and socialist Brazil.
We receive this result, however, with full awareness of the enormous challenges that still lie ahead. Brazil’s electoral battle is not yet over. By a margin of 1.8%, the representative of the Bolsonaro clan, Senator Flávio, broadly supported by the White House as part of the Trumpist project for Latin America, finished first in the first round. The second round of the presidential election will be decisive for the future direction of the country. We believe that another victory for Lula is entirely achievable, and the PCdoB will remain primarily and tirelessly committed to achieving this objective.
The PCdoB and the parties that make up the electoral alliance coordinating President Lula’s campaign will once again organize a program to welcome international delegations coming to Brazil to follow the final battle on Brazilian soil. In the coming days, we will send further information to those who are making arrangements to come.
Long live international solidarity!
Long live the struggle of the peoples!
We will win with Lula!
National Executive Commission of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB)
