Russian Communist Party leader in Belgorod killed in Ukrainian drone attack

Alexander Logvinov, head of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation’s (CPRF) city branch in Belgorod, was killed while driving his car during a Ukrainian drone strike on July 21. Reports indicate the attack occurred at a commercial location in the city, with his vehicle catching fire. Local authorities confirmed that Logvinov died at the scene from injuries sustained in the explosion.

In a statement, the CPRF said "On July 21, 2026, the Belgorod Regional Party Organization suffered a heavy, irreparable loss. As a result of a terrorist attack by the armed formations of Ukraine on the civilian infrastructure of the city of Belgorod, a member of the regional committee, secretary of the Belgorod City Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Logvinov Alexander Alekseevich was killed."

They noted, "Alexander Alekseevich established himself as a loyal son of the Communist Party, ready at any moment to come to the rescue of comrades and voters. The communists of the city branch showed high confidence in him".

Belgorod is located approximately 35 kilometers north of the border with Ukraine's Kharkiv region. The city and surrounding areas have experienced repeated attacks and infrastructure damage since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Official figures cited by State Duma lawmaker Sergei Gavrilov report over 500 civilian deaths and nearly 4,000 injuries in the Belgorod region during the conflict.

The local Communist Party branch announced a memorial for Logvinov and pledged support for his surviving family, which includes four children. The incident has heightened concern over public safety in the city.

Belgorod continues to experience drone strikes and artillery shelling. Local authorities maintain that Ukraine’s military has targeted civilian and commercial areas.
