From the Soviet Press, 1962:

THE OCTOBER SOCIALIST REVOLUTION in Russia is commemorated in the postal issues of the other socialist countries as well. Hungary issued two large stamps -- of 60 filler and 1 forint denominations -- for the fortieth anniversary of the world's first Soviet state. They bear the dates "1917-1957. One shows a dove, the symbol of peace, framed by the flags of the socialist countries; the other a portrait of Lenin.

The Rumanian People's Republic marked the anniversary with a series of three stamps all inscribed "1917-1957" but with different themes -- one allegorical representation of Rumanian youth building socialism, a portrait of Lenin with the flags of the socialist countries flying above it, and a monument to Lenin in Bucharest.

The German Democratic Republic issued a two-stamp series inscribed "40 Years of the Great October Socialist Revolution." Against a background scene of the storming of the Winter Palace is a worker's hand gripping a rifle with a red flag fastened to it.

A blue stamp with Picasso's dove of peace set off against a map was issued by the People's Republic of Bulgaria for the anniversary.

Poland commemorated the event with two stamps -- 60 grosz and 2.50-zloty. One symbolizes the victory of the October Revolution with broken chains of tyranny and a bayonet with a red flag. The other pictures a monument to Lenin in the Polish town of Poronino, where he lived a half century ago.

A Czechoslovak 60-heller commemorative with "1917-1957" inscribed in the corners shows the worker against a background of the country's factories, which he now owns. The hammer and sickle, emblem of labor, is inscribed on the right side of the stamp.

The People's Republic of China commemorative issued for the occasion depicts a holiday salute against a background of the Kremlin Spassky Tower and the Peking Tiananmen gate.
