Backdrop: Recently Egyptian military forces reportedly conducted airstrikes in eastern Sudan, targeting areas near the Sudan–Egypt border. These attacks appear to have been primarily focused on artisanal gold mining sites. Local miners and Sudanese political figures accused the Egyptian forces of carrying out these operations. At least 15 people were killed and over 50 wounded in the strikes.

Public Statement

*The de facto authorities in Port Sudan bear responsibility for safeguarding Sudan’s territory, natural resources, and national sovereignty.

*The Egyptian authorities must cease the killing of Sudanese citizens and end all violations of their dignity and fundamental rights.

*Relations between neighboring states must be grounded in mutual interests, sovereign equality, and respect for our people’s inalienable right to determine their own affairs and exercise full sovereignty over their land.

Mercy and forgiveness for the victims of Egyptian aggression on Sudanese soil, and heartfelt condolences to the Sudanese people.

To the steadfast masses of our people,

Amid the profound hardships you continue to endure - marked by worsening living conditions and the collapse of essential public services - the Egyptian authorities carried out aerial strikes at dawn on 17 and 18 June 2026 against unarmed civilian miners operating within Sudanese territory. These attacks were conducted using military aircraft and were subsequently followed by the deployment of heavy military equipment into some of Sudan’s most resource-rich gold-producing regions, apparently with the aim of clearing these areas and transferring control to large-scale investment interests. Reports continue to indicate that a number of miners remain trapped and effectively besieged within the mining sites.

These developments have unfolded amid the troubling silence of the authorities in Port Sudan and their media apparatus, which has repeatedly proclaimed its commitment to the dignity of our people while disregarding the recurring assaults on the lives, rights, and human dignity of Sudanese citizens.

People of Sudan,

The Sudanese Communist Party unequivocally condemns and denounces this act of aggression perpetrated by the Egyptian authorities against Sudanese citizens on their own soil. We likewise condemn the silence of the authorities in Port Sudan, whose inaction effectively facilitates the use of military force in pursuit of joint investment interests at the expense of our people and their national resources.

Accordingly, we demand the following:

  1. The immediate establishment of an independent and international investigation into the events of 17 and 18 June 2026, and the prosecution of all those responsible for the targeting of unarmed civilians.

  2. The immediate withdrawal of all Egyptian forces and military equipment from every Sudanese location into which they have advanced.

  3. The lifting of the siege imposed upon the trapped miners and the provision of guarantees for their safety and secure evacuation.

  4. Fair, comprehensive, and meaningful compensation for the families of those killed and injured.

  5. A thorough review of all investment and mining agreements with the Egyptian side to ensure the protection of national sovereignty and the Sudanese people’s rightful ownership of and control over their natural resources.

History renders its judgment without mercy, and Sudanese blood is far too precious to be expended as the price of others’ prosperity or the expansion of their wealth.

We further warn the de facto authorities against persisting in the oppression, impoverishment, and humiliation of our people.

The Sudanese masses possess the capacity and the will to restore matters to their rightful course by removing you entirely from power and holding you accountable for your actions.

“And if anyone mistakes our silence for consent, let them know that our patience is not surrender.”
