Swazi Communists condemn Deputy Prime Minister's Taiwan visit

The Communist Party of Swaziland (CPS) strongly and unequivocally condemns the decision of the tinkhundla regime to send the puppet Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla to Taiwan, where she met Taiwan’s so-called President of the separatists Lai Ching-te on 22 September 2026. The visit, presented under the pretext of disaster-management cooperation, represents another reckless escalation of the regime’s diplomatic alignment with the Taiwan authorities.
The CPS regards this conduct as an outrageous abuse of the foreign-policy machinery of the Swazi state. It demonstrates once again that the foreign policy of the tinkhundla regime is not formulated in the interests of the people of Swaziland, but in the narrow political and economic interests of the monarchy.
The CPS further condemns Dladla’s role in facilitating the May 2026 visit of Lai Ching-te to our country, during which she personally accompanied the Taiwanese delegation. Lai himself publicly thanked Dladla for helping ensure the success of his smuggling to Swaziland.
The CPS reaffirms its support for the One-China principle and recalls that UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 (XXVI) restored the lawful rights of the People’s Republic of China at the United Nations and recognised the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the only legitimate representative of China at the UN.
This tinkhundla regime's diplomatic recklessness is part of a wider pattern within the system. The same regime that disregards international democratic norms at home presumes to conduct foreign relations without accountability to the people. International law and human rights norms recognise fundamental freedoms, including freedom of expression, association, peaceful assembly and participation in public affairs. The Mswati dictatorship suppresses these rights.
The CPS therefore reiterates that the central problem is the absolute monarchy with a political system that has appropriated the state for monarchical interests. The people of Swaziland consume Chinese commodities and depend upon international economic relations for their daily survival, while the regime simultaneously pursues a foreign-policy posture that places narrow royal interests above broader people-to-people relations and international solidarity.
The CPS calls upon the oppressed people of Swaziland, progressive forces across Southern Africa, workers’ organisations, democratic movements and peoples of the world to stand in solidarity with the struggle of the Swazi people for democracy, human rights and national liberation.
The CPS remains committed to the National Democratic Revolution (NDR) and to the establishment of a People’s Democratic Republic of Swaziland founded upon popular sovereignty, democratic rights, social justice, international law and mutually beneficial relations among peoples.
The foreign policy of the monarchy does not represent the people of Swaziland.
Let us end Tinkhundla to build a new people-to-people relationship founded on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.
