Swazi Communists demand release of Palestinian Comrade Hassan Shahadeh
Saturday, 19 September 2026: The Communist Party of Swaziland (CPS) extends its fraternal and unwavering solidarity to the Palestinian Democratic Youth Union (PDYU) following the arrest of Comrade Hassan Shahadeh, head of the PDYU in the West Bank and a former Palestinian prisoner.
At dawn on Thursday, 17 September, Israeli occupation forces raided Comrade Hassan Shahadeh’s home in Abu Dis, east of occupied Jerusalem, and arrested him.
The CPS strongly condemns the arrest and stands shoulder to shoulder with Comrade Hassan, his family, his comrades, and the entire Palestinian youth movement. We regard the targeting of youth leaders and activists as a matter of serious concern, particularly where it affects the ability of young people to organise, participate in public life, and advocate for the rights and aspirations of their people.
We join the PDYU in calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Hassan Shahadeh, and for his safety, dignity, and fundamental rights to be fully respected.
Comrades, know that you are not alone. From Swaziland, we send our revolutionary and fraternal greetings to the Palestinian youth, students, workers, and all progressive forces struggling for freedom, justice, dignity, and self-determination.
The CPS believes that international solidarity must be expressed not only when the struggle is visible to the world, but also during difficult moments when individual activists and organisations face repression. The detention of one activist must not become an opportunity to silence an entire movement. The voices of Palestinian youth deserve to be heard, and their right to organise and advocate for their national and democratic aspirations must be respected.
Our solidarity is also extended to all Palestinian prisoners and detainees and to their families and comrades. We call upon progressive and democratic organisations across the world to raise their voices, strengthen international solidarity, and ensure that the situation of Palestinians remains on the international agenda.
The CPS stands with the PDYU in this difficult moment. We salute their courage, determination, and continued commitment to organising Palestinian youth.
