Statement of the Casa de las Américas, translated from the Spanish
The United States is at war. Firstly, against its own citizens, many of whom—even those who are merely mild critics of the new order—have unexpectedly been labeled as left-wing radicals and even terrorists; against its migrants, who are confined like animals, humiliated, and deported without any legal process; against its major cities, which are being militarized under the outraged gaze of their residents; against the conventional "values" and institutions of liberal democracy, which are in the process of being dismantled.
In this delirium, the government has reinstated the title of Secretary of War and deployed ships, submarines, and troops to the Caribbean, a region familiar with the long and sinister history of U.S. military interventions. Those responsible for the worst genocide of our era are now amusing themselves by blowing up small boats near Venezuela and sharing these acts on social media -- much to the astonishment of the international community -- as these executions lack any legal or moral justification.
The pretext, once again is the fight against drug trafficking—an fallacious justification that has been used by U.S. governments and several of their local allies in Latin America for decades to establish military bases, carry out interventionist strategies, bomb civilians, and topple governments.
This time, the danger has assumed a more dramatic aspect with the looming threat of a military incursion into Venezuelan territory. Clearly, this sets the stage for a potential escalation into war. This frenzy aligns, not coincidentally, with the extreme right's goal in Venezuela to execute a false flag operation, as the Venezuelan government has warned about: an attack on the United States embassy in Caracas intended to serve as a casus belli.
The true goal of the increasing military and media onslaught is the longstanding imperial ambition to crush the Bolivarian Revolution, seize control of the nation's vast strategic resources, and reassert dominance over the region, bringing it back to the age of the Big Stick. For Latin America and the Caribbean, stopping this warmongering display of the United States government and preserving the continent as a zone of peace are, right now, our most sacred duties. The Venezuelan people and government must know that they have the support of millions of women and men aware that the destiny of Our America is tied to the destiny, integrity and dignity of Venezuela.
