Thongloun Sisoulith re-elected as General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party

Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith was re-elected as General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) during its 12th National Congress on Thursday, reflecting strong domestic support and international recognition of his leadership.

Thongloun Sisoulith’s re-election came during the 12th National Congress of the LPRP, a three-day event that concluded with the announcement of the new Central Committee and politburo of the party. The 12th Central Committee consists of 73 members, including prominent figures such as President of the National Assembly Saysomphone Phomvihanh and Prime Minister Sonesay Siphandone

Sisoulith's reelection signals high trust and confidence from both the party members and the Laotian people, affirming belief in his leadership and the party’s guidance in nation-building and governance.

Following his re-election, Thongloun Sisoulith received congratulatory messages from several international leaders. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, sent a personal note expressing confidence in Laos continuing along a socialist development path under Thongloun’s leadership.

Similarly, Kim Jong-un of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea also extended official congratulations, highlighting regional recognition of his political role and the stability of Laos’s ruling party as did Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
