Thousands march in Havana as Cuban President denounces US attack on Venezuela as "state terrorism"

Saturday, January 3 - Tens of thousands of Cubans gathered at the historic Anti-Imperialist Tribune in Havana, alongside the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, to condemn the imperialist attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his partner Cilia Flores.

"Down with immoral and fascist imperialism!," Díaz-Canel began as he addressed the rally.

"Cuba condemns and denounces these actions as an act of state terrorism. A criminal assault against Our America, a Zone of Peace; a violation of the sovereignty of a nation that is a symbol of independence, dignity, and solidarity," he continued.

He said that Latin America "is not your backyard, nor disputed territory. We neither accept nor recognize the Monroe Doctrine, nor kings, nor outdated emperors. The land of Bolívar is sacred and an attack on its children is an attack on all the children of Our America."

The United States lacks any moral or legal justification to forcibly remove the Venezuelan President from his country. However, it does bear responsibility to the world for ensuring his physical safety, he stressed.

"These are not times for half-measures, they are times for defining principles and for taking a stand against fascism and imperialist barbarism," he continued, calling on the people of the world to stand up.
