To Lam has been unanimously re-elected as Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary at the party's 14th National Congress and will continue to lead the country forward until 2030, pledging significant economic growth.
At an international press conference to announce the outcomes of the 14th National Party Congress, he called it a resounding success and an historic milestone. He also said that it highlighted “Solidarity – Democracy – Discipline – Breakthrough – Development;” responsibility, dedication, intellect and science for the people; and strategic autonomy, resilience, confidence and national pride for a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, civilised and happy Vietnam advancing steadily toward socialism.
The Congress, held over several days, concluded with a strong emphasis on patriotism, civic responsibility, and unity among the Party, the people, and the armed forces. It marked a disciplined, democratic process reflecting collective will and serious working attitudes throughout the sessions.
The Congress reinforced Vietnam’s long-term national vision of transforming into a high-income developed country by mid-century. It set ambitious goals including sustaining an annual GDP growth rate of around 10% and addressing mounting challenges such as geopolitical competition and rapid technological change.
Significant breakthroughs were observed in the Party's approach, including the integration of three key strategic documents to guide a new development model. These major resolutions were rigorously tested before the Congress, signaling innovation and adaptation in strategic planning.
Decisions made during the Congress also set the political direction, policy priorities, and power structure for the coming term, reflecting Vietnam’s evolving governance and development priorities.
The outcomes were formally announced in an international press conference led by Party General Secretary To Lam immediately after the Congress concluded, underlining transparency and communication to both domestic and international audiences.
After his re-election, high-ranking leaders of neighbouring Laos, China and Cambodia, among many others, sent their messages and letters of congratulations to the General Secretary.
