In yet another demented social media rant, Donald Trump threatened Cuba today saying that the embargoed nation would no longer be allowed to get any oil from Venezuela.
“THERE WILL BE NO MORE OIL OR MONEY GOING TO CUBA – ZERO! I strongly suggest they make a deal, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Sunday. He also accused Cuba of "extortion" against Venezuela, especially ironic given that his government bombed Caracas, kidnapped its president and has threatened Mauro' replacement.
In a sperate moment he reposted a message on Truth Social suggesting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio could become the president of communist-ruled Cuba.
Trump shared that post with the comment: “Sounds good to me!”
Both Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez responded forcefully on X.
"They have no moral authority to point fingers at Cuba about anything, absolutely anything," Díaz-Canel said. He also said “Cuba is a free, independent, and sovereign nation. Nobody dictates what we do."
“Cuba does not attack; it has been attacked by the US for 66 years, and it does not threaten; it prepares, ready to defend the homeland to the last drop of blood.”
Rodriguez wrote:
Cuba does not receive nor has it ever received any monetary or material compensation for the security services rendered to any country.
As different from the US, we do not have a government that lends itself into mercenarism, blackmail or military coercion against other States.
Like any other country, Cuba has the absolute right to import fuel from those markets that are willing to export it and exercise their own right to develop their economic relations without the interference of and subordination to the US unilateral coercive measures.
Law and justice are on Cuba's side. The US is behaving like a criminal and uncontrolled hegemon that threatens peace and security not only of Cuba and this hemisphere but of the entire world.
