Additional research information:

In the fall of 1941, Soviet leaders resolved to construct a facility for producing military trucks well to the east of the Nazi invaders. This facility, named the Ural Automotive Plant, was situated in the city of Miass, within Chelyabinsk Oblast in the Ural Mountains. This was to replace the the ZiS truck plant that was evacuated from Moscow.

After the war its durable and reliable military model trucks were redesigned for civilian and industrial use, with this model being an early example.
