Valentina Tereshkova stamp -- Stamps of the GDR #35


On June 16, 1963 Vostok VI, piloted by Soviet Valentina Tereshkova, the world's first woman cosmonaut, was launched. As USSR Magazine related in 1964 her flight which was of "almost three days' duration ended successfully on June 19. Space ship Vostok VI was in flight for 71 hours, made more than 48 revolutions of the globe and covered a distance of more than one million miles."
