ALBA-TCP denounces US destabilization attempts against Cuba

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) has issued a statement denouncing US attempts to destabilize Cuba after minor protests occurring there in the context of an unrelenting, suffocating and illegal US economic blockade opposed by virtually every other country in the world.

All across the corporate media today, there are stories attacking Cuba and its revolution. After protests took place in the city of Santiago over blackouts and food shortages, the Biden administration is hoping to provoke a crisis inside of the country. But the hardships in Cuba are the making of the U.S. government itself.
This is a tried and true tactic of the empire. In the run up to the infamous 1973 CIA coup in Chile that overthrew elected president Salvador Allende, the Nixon administration’s strategy was to “make the economy scream” to erode support for the government. But Cuba doesn’t need to go back to the days of being a colony of Washington and Wall Street – what Cuba needs is for Biden to end the blockade!

Statement:

The member States of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) firmly reject the destabilization attempts against the Republic of Cuba, coming from external agents that only seek to break the internal order of that nation.

By taking opportunistic advantage of the difficult economic situation the country is going through as a consequence of the blockade’s worsening, particularly the public discontent with the current situation of the electric service and food distribution, the government of the United States continues its attempts to provoke a social outbreak, tightening the economic siege, sabotaging the State’s capacity to respond to the requirements of the people, instigating destabilization through toxic platforms and promoting a smear campaign against Cuba, in flagrant violation of International Law and the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

Cuba is an example of resilience, work and resistance for all Latin America and the Caribbean and its authorities have had, have and will have all the willingness to face and improve the conditions that this worthy nation has been subjected to for years, as a result of the hatred and contempt of the enemies of the Cuban Revolution.

The ALBA-TCP member countries reaffirm our firm solidarity with the Cuban people and government, express our support for its legitimate denunciation against enemy campaigns, as well as our recognition of its tireless efforts to overcome all the difficulties resulting from the brutal and illegal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the government of the United States of America against Cuba, which since the Lester Mallory Memorandum has been causing hardships to the Cuban people in order to justify an external intervention.

The Alliance reiterates its support for the government of the Republic of Cuba as it continues to work for the well-being and security of its kind and resilient people and strongly rejects the permanent hostility, instigation to subversion and interference of the United States against this brotherly Latin American and Caribbean country.
