India's Communists mourn Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy

Communists in India are mourning the death of Comrade Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, former General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) (2012–2019) and a "distinguished leader of the Indian Left who devoted his entire life to the cause of workers, peasants, students, youth and the oppressed."




The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:


Salute to Comrade Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy


The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its profound grief at the passing away of Comrade Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy. A lifelong champion of the working class and oppressed, Sudhakar Reddy dedicated his life to the ideals of justice, equality, and socialism.


From his early activism as a student leader in Kurnool and at Osmania University, to leading the AISF and AIYF in historic youth and student struggles, he demonstrated unwavering commitment to democratic rights and social transformation.


As a two-time Member of Parliament from Nalgonda, Comrade Reddy stood out for his integrity, legislative insight, and advocacy on issues ranging from workers’ rights to agrarian distress. On the ground, he led powerful people’s movements.


As General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (2012–2019), he played a crucial role in forging united action against communalism and authoritarianism. One of the outstanding leaders of the CPI, he will be remembered for his efforts at strengthening the unity among the Left parties and forces.


The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) conveys it heartfelt condolences to the entire membership of the Communist Party of India as also to his wife and children.
