Emblem of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic, formed November 29, 1920

From USSR Magazine, November 1964: November 29, 1920. The Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic was formed. On its territory of 11,500 square miles live some two million people. Having acquired sovereignty under Soviet power, the Armenian people, with the help of all the Soviet republics, have scored great economic and cultural achievements. In recent years several hundred thousand Armenians have returned to their homeland from all over the world to take up permanent residence there.

Like other Soviet republics, Armenia is represented in the central organs of power. Anastas I. Mikoyan, an Armenian, has recently been elected President of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
