Repudiation of the US attacks on Raúl Castro!

WE CONDEMN THE US ATTACKS AGAINST RAÚL CASTRO, AGAINST THE SOVEREIGNTY AND HISTORY OF CUBA

The PCB – Brazilian Communist Party reaffirms its most unrestricted solidarity with Commander Raúl Castro, the Cuban people and working class, the government and the Communist Party of Cuba. At this crucial moment for all the peoples of the world, in which the most aggressive and chauvinist sectors of imperialism, in alliance with high-tech communication and information companies, unleash a brutal cultural, media, political and economic offensive against peoples, nations and, above all, the world working class, we affirm, today as yesterday, that they shall not pass!

On October 19, 2026, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the issuance of an arrest warrant — with no possibility of bail — against Raúl Modesto Castro Ruz, 95 years old, signed by Judge Ariana Fajardo Orshan of the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida. The charge refers to the shooting down, on February 24, 1996, of two aircraft of the Cuban exile group "Brothers to the Rescue," which violated Cuban airspace, an episode that caused the death of four people. At that time, Raúl Castro was Minister of the Armed Forces and Vice President of Cuba. This incident led directly to the approval of the Helms-Burton Act, which intensified the economic blockade against the Government of Cuba.

The "Brothers to the Rescue" group, composed of Cuban counterrevolutionaries exiled in the United States, has carried out, since 1991, hostile activities against Cuba, repeatedly violating the Island's airspace, dropping leaflets and making appeals to the population to oppose the socialist administration, in coordination with the intelligence services of agencies linked to the US presidency, which promote the attempt to overthrow the Government of the Caribbean country. In that episode, the group's aircraft repeatedly violated Cuban airspace and penetrated a military operations zone, ignoring the warnings received.

Neither the State of Florida nor the Federal Government of the US has the legal competence and legitimacy to try a Cuban citizen for acts performed in the exercise of his duties, in territory under Cuban sovereignty. This is an illegitimate extraterritoriality, insofar as state laws are applied to events that occurred outside US territory, which violates basic principles of International Law. As there is no extradition treaty between the two countries, the warrant cannot be legally executed.

We vehemently repudiate this new act of hostility by the US Government against the people and Government of Cuba. The aversion to the Cuban Socialist Revolution is only comparable to the hatred that, for more than two centuries, the Haitian Revolution aroused, which, as is known, was the target of brutal sanctions for having put an end to slavery and colonialism. Today, Cuba finds itself in the same situation in which the Haitian Revolution found itself at that time. For this reason, President Trump has relaunched the Monroe Doctrine and, moreover, a new "Operation Condor" is underway, now called "Shield of the Americas," with the same purpose as the fateful anti-communist plan that claimed so many lives of valiant popular militants in the 1970s and 1980s. The US power circles do not forgive the audacity of the Cuban people and the Indo-Afro-Latin American peoples to rebel against imperialism and capitalism, and they do not give up trying, repeatedly, to destroy and erase from memory this feat accomplished in "Our America."

– FULL SOLIDARITY WITH COMMANDER RAÚL CASTRO

– IN DEFENSE OF THE SOVEREIGNTY AND SELF-DETERMINATION OF THE CUBAN PEOPLE
