Comrade Tibor Zenker, chairman of the Party of Labour of Austria, recognized for his efforts to rebuild the communist movement in Austria and his contributions to Marxist–Leninist thought, has died unexpectedly at the age of 50.

Tibor Zenker was born on March 7, 1976, in Vienna, Austria, alongside his twin brother Jan. He was the son of Helmut Zenker, a well-known Austrian writer (1949–2003). During his early life, Tibor was deeply involved in cultural activities, including adapting his father’s novellas from the TV series „Kottan ermittelt“ for popular theater productions.

Zenker became politically active as a teenager, initially involved in the Socialist Youth (SJ) and associating with the “Stamokap” Marxist-Leninist current. Over time, dissatisfied with mainstream Social Democratic policies, he joined the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ), where he worked against the revisionist leadership and helped found the Communist Initiative in 2005. This initiative aimed to restore a Marxist–Leninist orientation to Austria’s communist movement.

In 2013, he played a crucial role in founding the Party of Labour of Austria (Partei der Arbeit Österreichs, PdA), drafting its foundational statutes and principles. He served as deputy chairman and later, in 2019, became chairman of the PdA, leading the party through organizational and political consolidation.

Under his leadership, the PdA established stronger structures and local branches across Austria. Zenker emphasized collective work, ideological clarity, and the central role of the working class in achieving socialism.

Zenker was actively involved in the international communist movement, contributing to European communist coordination initiatives and ideological debates

Zenker was also an accomplished author: he wrote political works, novels, novellas, and even Sherlock Holmes detective novels. His notable political publications include:

  • Stamokap heute – Vom gegenwärtigen Kapitalismus zur sozialistischen Zukunft (2005)

  • Was ist Faschismus? (2006)

  • Der Imperialismus der EU series (2006, 2010, 2014)

  • Österreich 1938 – Hintergründe, Vorgeschichte und Folgen des „Anschlusses“ (2008)

  • Über die revolutionäre Partei der Arbeiterklasse (2013, co-authored)

These works were recognized both in Austria and internationally within communist circles and were translated into multiple languages.

Tibor Zenker passed away suddenly at home in Wolkersdorf, Austria, on April 16, 2026, at the age of 50. His death was widely mourned, with condolences from various international communist leaders highlighting his influence in Marxist-Leninist circles. He is remembered for his leadership in rebuilding the Austrian communist movement, his theoretical writings, and his commitment to advancing revolutionary socialist ideals.

Zenker was survived by his life partner Gabi, his children Simon and Judith, his stepson Jakob, his twin brother Jan, and his mother, alongside numerous colleagues and comrades in the communist movement.
