Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), welcomed Vu Hai Ha, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and vice president of the Commission on Defense, Security, and Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly of Vietnam, at the PCC headquarters. Vu Hai Ha is participating in the First International Colloquium “Fidel: Legacy and Future.”
Morales Ojeda warmly welcomed the Vietnamese leader and, on behalf of the Party leadership, expressed gratitude for the delegation’s presence at the 24th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties. He also appreciated their contribution during the event’s closing, which helped lead to the adoption of a final document and an action plan.
He again expressed his thanks for the participation of the delegation led by Vu Hai Ha in the Colloquium honoring Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, as well as for his contribution during the opening session.
The party leader emphasized that, in his speech the previous day, the Vietnamese guest had highlighted the historic and close ties between the Parties, Governments, and peoples of Cuba and Vietnam, reflected in the deep friendship and mutual admiration shared by Fidel Castro and Ho Chi Minh.
Morales Ojeda expressed his gratitude for the statements and support from the Party and Government of Vietnam toward Cuba, especially in light of the tightening economic, commercial, financial, and energy blockade imposed by the United States. He described this policy as collective punishment and a genocidal act against the Cuban people.
During the conversation, the Cuban leader spoke about the economic and social changes taking place in the country, which he mentioned had been shared with Le Hoai Trung, member of the Political Bureau of the CPV and Minister of Foreign Affairs, during his visit as special envoy of comrade To Lam to present the outcomes of the XIV Congress of the Vietnamese Party.
He noted that the outcomes of the agreements from the Extraordinary Plenary of the Central Committee, as well as the decision to postpone the PCC Congress, were also discussed in a general manner.
He also pointed out the existing ties of exchange and cooperation between the two parties, such as jointly organized theoretical seminars and visits by party and government leaders from both countries.
Vu Hai Ha expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and highlighted how much Vietnam values its relationship with Cuba. He mentioned that even though the Vietnamese National Assembly is in session, he was given permission to attend the events in Havana, seeing it as a clear sign of the importance his country places on the historic bonds between the two nations.
The meeting was held as part of the events marking the 100th anniversary of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz’s birth, alongside the celebration in Havana of the First International Colloquium, Fidel: Legacy and Future.
