Congratulations to the Cuban People: CP of Pakistan

END THE US BLOCKADE AGAINST CUBA!
INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY AND AN APPEAL FOR HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE
The Communist Party of Pakistan warmly congratulates the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban people on an important diplomatic achievement at the United Nations General Assembly, where yet another resolution calling for an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba was adopted. This achievement reaffirms Cuba's longstanding struggle for national sovereignty, independence and the right of its people to determine their own political, economic and social future.
On 28 October 2026, the United Nations General Assembly adopted "Draft Resolution A/81/L.5", formally entitled "Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial and Financial Embargo Imposed by the United States of America against Cuba." The resolution was presented by the Republic of Cuba and introduced before the General Assembly by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.
The resolution received 130 votes in favour, 17 against and 25 abstentions. This marked the 34th consecutive year in which the United Nations General Assembly called for an end to the US blockade. Although the resolution is non-binding, its adoption represents a significant diplomatic achievement for Cuba and reflects the continuing support of a substantial majority of UN member states for the principles of national sovereignty, equality among nations and the right of peoples to determine their own destiny.
Our Party warmly congratulates the Cuban people on this achievement and pays tribute to their resilience, determination and steadfast defence of their national independence and sovereignty.
Pakistan's Vote: Recognition and Historic Friendship
The Communist Party of Pakistan particularly welcomes and appreciates the decision of the Government of Pakistan to vote in favour of the Cuban resolution. This positive diplomatic step deserves recognition as an expression of respect for Cuba's sovereignty, non-interference in the internal affairs of states and the peaceful coexistence of nations.
Pakistan's support is a welcome contribution to the longstanding bonds of friendship between the peoples of Pakistan and Cuba. We hope that this position will be sustained through stronger diplomatic relations, practical cooperation and mutual support at international forums.
The Enormous Economic and Human Cost of the Blockade
For more than six decades, the United States has maintained an economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba. This policy has severely obstructed the country's access to international markets, financial institutions, investment, technology, fuel, medicines and essential supplies. Its extraterritorial application has also discouraged foreign banks, companies and institutions from maintaining normal commercial relations with Cuba.
According to the Cuban Government's 2026 report submitted to the United Nations, the economic damage caused by the blockade between 1 March 2025 and 28 February 2026 alone amounted to approximately US$8.083 billion. The cumulative damage over the years of the blockade has reached approximately US$178.7 billion at current prices.
These enormous losses have severely affected Cuba's economy and the everyday lives of its people. Restrictions on medicines and medical equipment have placed additional pressure on healthcare institutions; limitations on fuel and energy supplies have aggravated electricity shortages; and barriers to trade, agricultural inputs and international financing have adversely affected food production and economic development.
The blockade is not merely an economic or diplomatic issue. Its consequences are experienced by ordinary Cuban people, including patients, children, workers and pensioners. No nation should be subjected to economic deprivation and collective hardship because of the political and social system chosen by its people.
An Appeal for International Humanitarian Assistance
While demanding the immediate and unconditional lifting of the US blockade, the Communist Party of Pakistan appeals to the United Nations, its specialised agencies, international humanitarian organisations, governments and progressive institutions to extend urgent and practical humanitarian assistance to the Cuban people.
We also urge governments and international financial institutions to ensure that humanitarian exemptions are effective in practice, enabling banks, suppliers, shipping companies and humanitarian organisations to deliver essential goods to Cuba without fear of secondary sanctions or other punitive restrictions. Humanitarian assistance must never be obstructed by political considerations. The Cuban people have the same fundamental right to healthcare, food, electricity, education and a dignified life as people everywhere.
Our Profound Solidarity with the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban People
The Communist Party of Pakistan reaffirms its fraternal and internationalist solidarity with the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban people. We recognise the historic achievements of the Cuban Revolution in healthcare, education and social development, as well as Cuba's contribution to international solidarity. Despite decades of external pressure, the Cuban people remain steadfast in defending their national sovereignty, independence and right to determine their own future.
We call upon communist and workers' parties, trade unions and progressive movements worldwide to strengthen their solidarity with Cuba and support its people's struggle against the US blockade.
We firmly demand the immediate and unconditional termination of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade, the removal of all unilateral coercive measures against Cuba and an end to the extraterritorial application of US sanctions.
Differences between nations must be resolved through dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect, not through economic warfare, political intimidation or measures that inflict suffering on ordinary people.
The Communist Party of Pakistan stands firmly with the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban people in their struggle to defend their sovereignty, independence and socialist future.
LONG LIVE THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF CUBA!
LONG LIVE THE CUBAN REVOLUTION!
END THE US BLOCKADE AGAINST CUBA!
INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY AND WORKING-CLASS UNITY!
