In honour of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and the national reunification of Vietnam, a solemn ceremony was held at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana to celebrate that great victory in Saigon on April 30, 1975.

The ceremony was presided over by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Le Quang Long, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, as well as the President of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, and Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

During his speech, His Excellency Mr. Le Quang Long reminded those present that: “During the most difficult periods of the resistance, Cuba has always been at the forefront of the international movement in support of Vietnam. The Caribbean island was the first country in the world to recognize the South Vietnam Liberation Front.”

He added that "The 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of Vietnam, along with other activities in the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year 2025, will significantly contribute to awakening pride and gratitude towards the generations of previous leaders and peoples of the two countries, while educating about the tradition of transparent, loyal and exemplary fraternal solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba, especially to the younger generations of both countries."

On the Cuban side, Jorge Luis Broche, a member of the Secretariat of the Party's Central Committee and head of its Economic and Productive Department, agreed that in this context, the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two communist parties, governments, and peoples are renewed.

He also expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support of his Vietnamese brothers and sisters in demanding the immediate and unconditional elimination of the unjust economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba.

The commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Saigon victory not only honors a defining moment in Vietnamese history, but also symbolizes the unwavering strength of a people who fought for their freedom and unity.
